MK Guide Recommends

The Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art, established in 2002, is one of the largest art museums in western Japan. Designed by renowned architect Tadao Ando, the museum's structure itself is a masterpiece, harmoniously integrating concrete and natural light. The museum's permanent collection showcases a diverse array of modern and contemporary artworks, including paintings, sculptures, and prints by both Japanese and international artists. Notably, it features works by artists with strong ties to Hyogo Prefecture. In addition to its permanent exhibits, the museum hosts special exhibitions throughout the year, offering visitors fresh and dynamic art experiences. Amenities include an Art Information Center, a museum shop, a café, and outdoor spaces adorned with sculptures, all set against the scenic backdrop of the Rokko Mountains and the Seto Inland Sea. In 2019, the museum opened the Ando Gallery, dedicated to showcasing models and drawings of Tadao Ando's architectural works.
