Kokura Castle Bamboo Lanterns

Walk through the calming Kokura Castle grounds this autumn to see a breathtaking display of 30,000 bamboo lanterns, each lovingly placed by locals. Bamboo from a nearby abandoned bamboo garden is given new life on the castle grounds to aid with biodiversity and create a unique experience.

Special Exhibition: Drawings on Giant Lanterns

In summer, Fukuoka’s shrines and temples are abuzz with activity, with special services, stalls and stages. As part of the summer festival period, large lanterns, called otoro are painted with images of powerful warriors. For the first time, 60 of these iconic lanterns will be brought together at Fukuoka City Museum.

Kyushu Oktoberfest in Mojiko

If you’re looking to blow off some steam with a good brew, the Kyushu Oktoberfest is the place to do it. This year, local Kyushu breweries are putting their skills to the test with their own special Oktoberfest beers, which you can compare to those of their German import counterparts.
