Spring in Sapporo!
JOZANKEI KOINOBORI
In spring in Japan, carp streamers called koinobori decorate the country around Children’s Day. This is because carp are seen as the most spirited fish, swimming upstream against strong currents. One interesting place to see these streamers is on a trip to Jozankei Onsen in May when the snow still decorates the mountaintops and cherry blossoms are in full swing. Why not watch the streamers swaying in the wind, then take a dip in the famous hot springs nearby?

Yosakoi Soran Matsuri
There are only two rules for the dancers at the Yosakoi Soran Matsuri: Hold the traditional hand-clappers, and incorporate the Soran Bushi phrase into their song. If that doesn’t mean much to you, the best way to understand it is to head to the festival for yourself and watch as 30,000 dancers take to the stage in impressive and lively dances!
